1 Beecher, Henry Ward
(1813-1887) Бичер, Генри УордПроповедник-конгрегационалист [ Congregationalists], влиятельный оратор. (1838-1927) Вудхалл, Виктория (Клэфлин)Общественная деятельница, публицист, первая женщина - кандидат на пост президента США. В 1868 вместе с сестрой Теннесси [Claflin, Tennessee] (1845-1923) создала брокерскую контору на Уолл-стрит [ Wall Street]. В 1870-76 издавала политический журнал "Вудхалл энд Клэфлинс уикли" ["Woodhull and Claflin's Weekly"]. В 1872 впервые в США опубликовала английский перевод "Манифеста Коммунистической партии" К. Маркса и Ф. Энгельса. Выступала за предоставление женщинам избирательного права [ suffrage movement], за свободную любовь и единый стандарт морали для мужчин и женщин. В 1872 выдвинула свою кандидатуру на пост президента от радикальной Партии равноправия [Equal Rights Party], после поражения была подвергнута жесткой критике за подрыв моральных устоев Америки. В том же году устроила сенсационный скандал, обвинив священника Г. Бичера [ Beecher, Henry Ward] (брата Г. Бичер-Стоу [ Stowe, Harriet Beecher]) во внебрачной связи с прихожанкой.
